PC archery coach receives AIMS High Point Award

The Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation presented Potts Camp High School Archery coach Danny Mills the Waldo Cleland Highest Point Award.

Mills was the first recipient of the award.

“Waldo was the man that started archery in our schools,” Mills said. “I went through his class in 2005 and fourteen years ago I started it in Marshall County schools.”

Cleland, who died on August 28, 2023, was a dedicated and successful archer. He had a vision to bring archery into every high school in Mississippi. In 2003, the MDWFP gave him the tools to start AIMS in the state school system. Cleland believed archery could change lives, one arrow at a time, and he changed the lives of many with a simple bow and arrow.

The Highest Point Award is given to coaches who have gone above and beyond all expectations while serving as volunteers to enhance and build the AIMS program.
