Hawks come up short at North Panola

The Holly Springs Hawks are still searching for their first win in over a month. The Hawks have battled a few injuries, but they would get two key players back for Friday’s North Panola High School game.

The Hawks got off to a quick start, taking an 18-15 lead into the second quarter. The Cougars dominated the second quarter, scoring 26 points to the Hawks 12, bringing the halftime score to 41-30.

The Hawks head coach Luke Chapman made the adjustments during halftime, and the Hawks controlled the third quarter, taking a 49-47 lead into the fourth.

The Hawks played with great effort all night, but the Cougars rallied their squad to a 64-60 victory over the Hawks.

“I’ve always said you want to be playing your best basketball in January and February,” Chapman said. “These are the games that count. We took some tough mid-season losses, but now we’re back to full strength– sitting at 2-1 in district play, we are primed to make a run in the coming weeks.”

Hawks will host the H.W. Byers Lions Friday, Jan. 19. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
