It’s a huge individual award for Jason Thompson but all his Lady Lions share in it, too. The
H.W. Byers basketball coach has been named Girls Coach of the Year by
the Mississippi Association of Coaches, for all classifications (1A-6A). He will receive the award June 28 during a banquet in Jackson. Full Story

saw that I had received a call from Dr. Edward (Tony) Rankin in D.C.
When I reached him the next day, he told me how much he and his brother
Michael had enjoyed my coverage of the NCAA playoffs online. Tony is an
orthopedic surgeon (his wife holds a Ph.D.) in D.C. and Mike is a judge

Golf tournament May 31 at Kirkwood The Walter Utley Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, May 31, at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Marshall Academy capital campaign – “Moving Forward, One Gift At A Time.” Registration

Lady Card 5K set for June 8 in Potts Camp The Lady Cardinal 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 8, at Potts Camp High School. It starts at 9 a.m. Registration

is a $20 entry fee prior to race day. Entry fee on race day (T-shirt

Dees gets hole-in-one at Kirkwood On May 13,
while playing in the ECS Basketball Golf Classic Tournament, Mike Dees
of Ripley aced the Par 3, #12 hole (99 yards) at Kirkwood National
using his pitching wedge. In addition to making the hole-in-one, Dees was also playing on the first-place team in the tournament. Teammates/witnesses were Benny Carter, Ray Greer and Tom Rowland.
