Dealing with the ups and downs of knee surgery

Another week of rehab is behind me. There have been some improvements, a few more setbacks, and many miles to go. I am grateful to be better and somewhat independent, though I still count on others for many of my daily needs.

For those who said they wanted me to have this done first, you may not want to ask me just yet. I know everyone’s experience is a bit different. For those who told me they breezed right through it, I am happy for you. That has not been my experience. I will say know your body and make sure your doctors understand any unusual medical conditions or reactions you have. I would be further along in my rehab if not for the setbacks I have encountered.

Byhalia and Potts Camp have completed baseball, softball, and tee ball signups. There may be openings in a few ages. Check with your park director if you have not signed your child up. Practices are underway as the weather allows. I know a couple of teams still need coaches, so if that is something you can help with, please volunteer.

My few outings and window views indicate spring is bursting at the seams. I can see buttercups, blooming trees, birds, and bees. Clover is covering many yards this time of year. Clover is the first food for the bees in the spring, and as a reminder, hopefully, we will all leave a little patch for the bees.

It is the first food for the bees in the spring. If you have any bunnies that live in your area, they will enjoy it also.

My little dog has been with my daughter’s family since February 28. While he loves to visit with her family and their array of pets, I know he is ready to be back with me. My grandson has been kind enough to bring him to visit me twice. He is so snuggly when he visits.

It’s time for our little hummingbird friends to return for the summer. I love to watch them and all their antics. Remember, one part of sugar is added to four parts of water. There is no need to add any red coloring. I hope the hummingbirds that come to my home don’t get too discouraged since I’m not there to put their feeders out.

My grass already needs to be cut. I really had the crazy idea that by the time it needed cutting, I would be further along from my knee surgery. That is not the case at all. I’ve had a lot of cleanup done in the yard, which should make it easier to cut overall, but I guess I won’t find out til my next cutting round.

Marshall County Extension Office will have guest Buddy Martin, local beekeeper, to speak April 2, at 6 p.m. The extension office is located at 120 South Spring Street in Holly Springs. For more information call 662 252-3541.

Something we should all keep in mind: When you feel upset because an older person can’t do something, remember they might feel sad too because they can’t do it anymore. Be kind.

I had a new great-granddaughter added to the family on March 3. She arrived on her mom’s birthday. We think she is absolutely perfect.

Again, thank you for the cards, messages, gifts, food, phone calls, and visits. Thank you for understanding that my strength has had to go toward rehab. When my family has asked you not to visit at this time, it is nothing personal against you. I just have not progressed as quickly as we had hoped. I will admit that I do not like being the patient. I make a much better caregiver.
