Fall–another season to prepare for

October brings beautiful cool crisp mornings, windy afternoons, and another season to prepare for in the last quarter of the year. We are in the mid-season of football, and it will be time for a jacket or sweater for the next ballgame. It is time for some to visit the local pumpkin farms and decorate the house with the warm colors of October. The weather is soothing to help us prepare ourselves to prepare for the hustle and bustle of the last three months of the year.

I enjoy the month of October so much. As I mentioned, the weather is changing, the leaves on the trees changing to a bright red, orange, yellow, and some brown that brings out the warmth of the season, and some of us can't wait to get to put on that favorite sweater or hoodie that we tucked away until this time of year comes back around. I’m so glad this month and season arrive before Thanksgiving and Christmas. It almost prepares us, our bodies, and our mindset for the last two months of the year.

When October begins, we have eight weeks before Thanksgiving and twelve weeks before Christmas knocking on our back door. Many get a jump on preparing and planning for the grandiose holidays. I’m the person that talks about it and hopes that everything will fall into place when the time comes for the special holidays. On the other hand, my little sister, Teresa, is always planning and preparing. She is never late for anything. She plans out her months, weeks, and days and I may be stretching it, even the year. She is very organized, and I so want to be like her. That’s right; I look up to my little sister as she organizes and handles the upcoming holidays. I want that. I need that organization, but it is like a secret that the organized person carries around with them that there is no way the unorganized person can understand or do this each year. It’s hopeless. Do they have stress during the holidays? Do they worry they won’t get it all done? I believe they have some pressure but not like me or others like me. But October helps with all the anxiety that will begin in the last two months of the year. October’s soothing warm colors and crisp mornings help all of us for the upcoming months.

I say all this because no matter if you are the person who likes to plan or if you are not a planner, you may be like me, and you plan on preparing for the upcoming holidays, but somehow it doesn’t seem to take place. But one that makes it better is if you make sure you soak in October and let it carry you to a place where you can enjoy planning for the weekend football games, Halloween costumes, and all the hustle and bustle of the holidays that are ahead. Some may say, take a moment to breathe in the sunshine and feel the warmth of October.
