Qualifying deadine just over a week away
Qualifying is still open for those who want to seek mayor and board of aldermen positions in Holly Springs, Byhalia and Potts Camp.
The deadline for signing up to run is Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m.
Each candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the city or ward for which he or she is seeking office.
The primary elections (if needed) will be held Tuesday, May 7, with a runoff date of Tuesday, May 21.
Municipal general elections are slated for Tuesday, June 4. The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday, July 1.
City of Holly Springs voters will choose a mayor, an alderman at-large and aldermen for Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Voters in Byhalia and Potts Camp will pick a mayor and five aldermen at-large.

County library offering computer classes
The Marshall County Library will be offering two different computer classes in March.
One class will be Computer Basics, where you will learn how to use a mouse, basic computer terminology, and how to open a program and navigate through that program.
The other class will be Internet Basics, where you will learn Internet terminology, how to navigate to a website, and how to evaluate information you find on the Internet.
Each is a one-time, two-hour class. Class dates are on March 5, 12, and 19.

Free-throw competition scheduled for March 9
The local council of the Knights of Columbus will stage its annual Free Throw Championship on Saturday, March 9, at the Holy Family School gym on West Street.
The competition is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 10 to 14.
All entrants must have parental/guardian consent and present a duly signed entrant form at the day of the event.
If anyone has problems obtaining a form, please call C. Vinson at 252-2567 or V. Beard at 252-2018.
The tournament will begin at 11 a.m.
