Wildberry French Toast
1 loaf French bread cut
in 1-inch slices
6 eggs, beaten
bread slices in large, shallow baking dish. Combine eggs, milk, vanilla
and baking powder and pour over bread. Cover and chill 8-10 hours.
Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to
400°. In a bowl, combine berries, sugar, cornstarch and pie spice. Pour
into greased 9x13 baking dish and arrange prepared bread on top.
Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake uncovered for about 35-40 minutes.
Yields 6 servings.
Mary’s Swiss Omelet Casserole
8 slices of bread, cubed
1/2 cup diced onion
Grease 9x13 baking dish, lay cubed bread evenly on bottom. Layer onions, cheeses, peppers and mushrooms evenly over bread. Beat milk, sour cream, eggs, mustard, garlic and pepper in a bowl until well blended, about 2 minutes. Pour egg mixture evenly over layers and cover with plastic wrap. Place in refrigerator overnight. In the morning, preheat oven to 350° and bake about 30-40 minutes, until eggs are set. Let sit for 15 minutes before cutting. Serve with sliced ham and fruit garnish. Yields 12 servings.

Locals react to Hussein’s capture
The capture of Saddam Hussein, former president of Iraq, by U.S. military forces Dec. 13 has provided relief and hope that troops may soon be coming home. Bill Janssen, commander of VFW Post 5967, said he hopes Saddam’s capture will lead to peace in the Middle East. “I am elated,” he said.
Meredith Collins, age 7, danced the part of “Gingerbread” in The Nutcracker at the the DK School of Dance Sun. She is the daughter of Dana Jones Collins, and granddaughter of Doyle and Linda Jones of Laws Hill.
25 Years Ago - December 22, 1988
Mary Frances Gatewood was recognized recently for her 21-1/2 years of service on the Holly Springs Public Schools board of trustees. Bob Hill, president, presented Gatewood a plaque. She served as bookkeeper during the administrations of Norman McKenzie, Joe Williams, Holace Morris, Frank Ladd, Dwight Shelton and Fenton Peters.
Vel Anthony among inaugural class
Vel Anthony, son of Charles and Bessie Anthony of Byhalia, is among the inaugural class of juniors at Mississippi School for Math and Science in Columbus. The school has a college-type schedule.

Potts Camp PTA to take a “trip”
Thursday night the Potts Camp PTA will take a trip by film to the Holy Lands. James Lee Spencer will show the colored slides he made during this trip this past summer. The nursery in the home economics building will be open.
Most stores to close Wednesday and Thursday
It is generally understood, though unofficial as always, that most business houses will be closed two days, Wednesday and Thursday, for the Christmas holidays.
Cezon Bridge Club
The Cezon Bridge Club met Thursday in the home of Mrs. Edwin Callicutt with the Christmas motiff throughout the house. Mrs. L. Graham Miller won high score; Mrs. Bobby Fant low score; and Mrs. Johnny Brittenum, bingo.
