Digital over darkroom
This technology thing throws a curve every once in a while.
But in this case, it doesn’t make me long for the days gone by.

Mississippi not No. 1 for bugs
I know one thing Mississippi will never be ranked No. 1 for, and that is bugs. When I lived in Chicago, one of our church members was a woman named Rhonda, who worked for a big ad agency that had the account for Raid Bug Spray. Rhonda was in charge of this account, and she told me that they spent the biggest part of their budget in Florida. The fact that we are not No. 1 for bugs should come as a relief to those who are concerned about Mississippi being at the top or bottom of lists for bad and good things.
Congress recently passed legislation to reopen the government and avert a default on debt held by the United States. The bipartisan agreement allows us to move past this crisis and to begin looking ahead. Although this proposal is not perfect, it does contain a key provision to address one of the biggest challenges of our time: unsustainable debt. The plan sets the stage for a long overdue budget conference between the House and Senate to address this serious issue.
Letters to The Editor
He will be missed
The Marshall County Humane Society was saddened last week to learn of the passing of lifetime member Willis (Bill) Baston.
Bill was one of our founding members; and for many years, he, along with his wife Norma, answered the Humane Society telephone. He volunteered countless hours at the spay clinic, thrift store, and in our rescue activities.
