New Hope Day set for Sunday at village
New Hope Village emergency shelter will host its first annual New Hope Day on Sunday, Oct. 13.
All area churches have been asked to collect a special love offering and visitors are welcome to tour the facility during open house from 2-4 p.m. New Hope Village is located at 488 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Holly Springs.

Seven in running for District 5 representative
Seven candidates have submitted qualifying papers for the vacancy in the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 5, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
Seeking the position are Daylon Cannon, Andre’ R. DeBerry, Arthur “Clyde” Ellzey, John Gary Faulkner, Lee Edward Gill, Jacqueline Simon and Robert Earl Young.
The special election for District 5 state representative is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, then a runoff election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
District 5 includes most of Marshall County and a portion of northwestern Benton County.
The position became open when former representative Kelvin Buck was sworn in as mayor of Holly Springs on July 1.
‘Get Your Pink On’ Oct. 15 in Holly Springs
“Get Your Pink On” will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, on the Marshall County Courthouse lawn in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The big event, set for 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., will include food and entertainment. Balloons will be released at 7 p.m.
Organizers urge everyone to “come out and help us fight back against breast cancer.”
Fishing rodeo set for Oct. 19 at Enid Lake
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Visitor Education Center, adjacent to Enid Lake, will host a youth fishing rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The fishing rodeo is open to youth ages 15 and under. Registration begins at 7 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear, catfish bait, and stringers. The rodeo pond is well stocked with catfish to make it easier for participants to catch fish.
The rodeo is a great way for a family to spend quality time together.
