City school board will meet next Tuesday
The January meeting of the Holly Springs School Board has been scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m.
It will be held in the Holly Springs High School Library, 165 North Walthall Street.
County school board plans Tuesday meeting
The Marshall County Board of Education will have its January meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 4:30 p.m.
It will be held in the board room of the Marshall County Board of Supervisors at 103B Market Street, Holly Springs.
Byhalia luncheon set for January 17
The next Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Seafood Junction Too. Sponsors are Griffith CPA Firm, Holly Springs Funeral Home and Thomas Monument.

Qualifying underway for municipal elections
Several candidates have already qualified to seek municipal positions in this year’s elections.
In Holly Springs, early candidates are – for mayor, incumbent Andre’ DeBerry and Kelvin Buck; for alderman at-large, Tim Liddy; for alderman Ward 2, Lemon Phelps and Lennell (Big Luke) Lucas; and for alderman, Ward 3, incumbent Garrie Colhoun and Gary Punstall.
In Byhalia, mayor Phil Malone has qualified to seek re-election.
No candidates had yet qualified as of Tuesday morning of this week in Potts Camp.
The deadline for signing up to run is Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m.
Each candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the city or ward for which he or she is seeking office.
The primary elections (if needed) will be held Tuesday, May 7, with a runoff date of Tuesday, May 21.
Municipal general elections are set for Tuesday, June 4.
The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday, July 1.
