Have fun this season
The youth baseball and softball fields are busy once again. The Marshall County Dizzy Dean season is in full swing.
“An Open Letter to Dixie Youth Parents” applies to children in most any league. Here’s hoping it’s a fun season for everyone.
Close to Nowhere
Strange, puzzling case
For a couple of weeks now, editor Barry has laughed and said I was milking my illness for all it was worth in my column. Durn tooting! And after this past week, I deserve at least one more.
Monday afternoon last week, my poor body decided it had “had enough!” I tried to leave work via my car, but my poor body said, “nope” and off I went in an ambulance. Let me say here the Holly Springs Fire Department was there in a flash as first responders. I don’t know who the firemen were, but I do know that the one who kept his big warm hand on my shoulder to keep me from falling out of the chair was a huge comfort. I was the third at work to become seriously ill and I was so grateful to those guys for coming so quickly each time; especially my time.
The Preacher’s Corner
To go or not to go – that was the question
Back in October, I had a Sunday with no ministerial obligations. When Sunday morning rolled around, I found myself facing the dilemma of all who are not paid a salary to be at church on Sabbath mornings: to go or not to go. That was the question!
You see, preachers do not normally have the option that is before Mr. or Mrs. Every Member. Ministers have to go to church, whether we feel like it or not, and contrary to the popular myth, preachers, like everyone else, have days when we do not feel particularly like going to church, or at least when we do not feel very confident about the merits of the sermon to be preached! But if we ministers slept in every Sunday we felt like it, there would soon be a committee knocking at the door, wanting an explanation.
