Back-to-back for Patriots

Marshall Academy started the season number one and, most importantly, finished that way, too.
The Patriots beat three other members of the top five – Trinity, Central Private and Brookhaven – to claim their second straight Class AA state basketball championship last week.
Byers blisters Bogue Chitto

It was the number one team from the North, H.W. Byers, versus the number two team from the South, Bogue Chitto – the exact same roles as last season. However, there was one slight difference – the starting time.
The H.W. Byers Lady Lions, defending Class 1A state champions, entered “The Big House” Saturday at 1 p.m. for the semi-finals with a record of 27-4.

Clash with rival Coldwater awaits

The H.W. Byers Lady Lions, like their head coach, love a challenge.
The task ahead Friday at 1 p.m. in the Class 1A state championship game at “The Big House” is to beat rival Coldwater a fourth time this season.
Ray receives honor
The 2012 high school baseball season is approaching and PRO-DAY Baseball announced that John Wesley Ray has been selected to the 2012 Pre-Season Prep Gear/PRO-DAY Baseball First Team All-American.
Ray is a sophomore pitcher/first baseman at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Tenn.
