Marshall Academy started the season number one and, most importantly, finished that way, too. The
Patriots beat three other members of the top five – Trinity, Central
Private and Brookhaven – to claim their second straight Class AA state
basketball championship last week. Full Story
Byers blisters Bogue Chitto • Championship game next By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor It
was the number one team from the North, H.W. Byers, versus the number
two team from the South, Bogue Chitto – the exact same roles as last
season. However, there was one slight difference – the starting time. The
H.W. Byers Lady Lions, defending Class 1A state champions, entered “The
Big House” Saturday at 1 p.m. for the semi-finals with a record of 27-4. Full Story

Murphy signs with Hinds
Neil
Murphy, a senior long snapper for the Marshall Academy Patriots, signed
a football scholarship Thursday with Hinds Community College. Seated
with him for the ceremony at the MA library are his parents, Harold and
Susie Murphy. Standing, from left, are assistant coach Bart Jenkins,
head coach Barrett Donahoe and assistant coach Keith Owens. Classmates,
friends and fellow Marshall Academy athletes were also on hand for the
ceremony. |
Ray receives honor The 2012 high school
baseball season is approaching and PRO-DAY Baseball announced that John
Wesley Ray has been selected to the 2012 Pre-Season Prep Gear/PRO-DAY
Baseball First Team All-American. Ray is a sophomore pitcher/first baseman at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, Tenn. Full Story
