Marshall Academy Patriots had their picture taken with another
first-place trophy Saturday night, this one North State after district
the week before. But they have hopes of bigger prizes. “This
was our third North State title in a row,” coach Craig Dailey said
after a 70-55 win over Canton Academy. “That’s a huge testament to

H.W. Byers girls, boys win north openers By CLAUDE VINSON Sports Editor H.W. Byers teams got to stay at home February 14 for the first trials in Class 1A North State. The
girls were up first and they faced the Lady Rams of Vardaman. The Byers
girls team is known as the Lady Lions, but they could have easily been
mistaken for a hive of bees the way they swarmed all over the Lady
Rams. They were trapping the ball on the open floor and were virtually
unmatchable in the paint at both ends. The first period score of 29-3

Cook going to Mississippi Delta
Tyler
Cook, a senior pitcher for the Marshall Academy Patriots, signed a
baseball scholarship Thursday, Feb. 16, with Mississippi Delta
Community College. Pictured at the ceremony in the school library are

Holly Springs youth sports registration continues Registration is open for T-ball, softball and baseball during the month of February. Youth
ages 3 through 16 are encouraged to participate. The fee is $30. It can

in a back-and-forth classic in the semi-finals Friday night. Byers came

Marshall Academy Lady Patriots lost 63-50 to Prairie View (La.), while
the Byhalia Lady Indians fell 85-48 to Ripley, Both games were played

Hannah Player of Week By BARRY BURLESON Editor Clevin
Hannah, a former Holly Springs High School Hawk, received Player of the
Week honors in an overseas professional basketball league. Hannah scored a game-high 28 points and added five rebounds and six assists for Kauhajoki in the team’s hard-fought 85-81 win. Full Story
