overlooking the lake – in Nashville, Tenn.! Full Story
The Preacher’s Corner By Rev. Dr. Milton Winter Dr. Ingraham’s yew tree is local treasure I
am fascinated by the yew tree in Hill Crest Cemetery. It is located
near the southernmost gate, at the western edge, where Center Street
passes by. It looks like a fir tree, except the gnarled, craggy trunk
and “bushier” foliage set it apart from the evergreens we are used to
in America. The tree — extremely rare in
Mississippi — was planted beside the grave of the Rev. Joseph Holt
Ingraham (1809-1860), who was rector of Christ Church here, and a noted
author in his day. Full Story
Letter To The Editor Compassionate vet Dear Editor, I’m
writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Mike
Thompson. Not only is he a wonderful veterinarian, he is a caring
compassionate man with a heart of gold. You see,
Reese, our beloved 10-year-old rat terrier, was diagnosed with cancer
nine months ago. Dr. Thompson had not been caring for Reese because we
have a vet in our family who had routinely removed her cancerous
growths, resulting in Reese bouncing back rather quickly. Things
didn’t go so well after her last surgery. It was the last week in
December and shortly after performing the surgery, our vet was headed
out of town for the holidays. Reese came home and seemed to go down
fast. New Year’s Eve we knew things were bad,
but were uncertain what to do -- first, it was a holiday; second, our
vet was out of town. After several hours of watching her suffer, I couldn’t bear to let it continue. My
daughter suggested we call Willow Bend Animal Clinic. At 3 a.m., my
daughter had spoken with Dr. Thompson briefly, explaining the situation. Not
knowing exactly who I was, he willingly got out of bed and met me
within 30 minutes at the clinic. It was decided to euthanize Reese. I
really can’t put into words how grateful I am to him, or what it meant
to me and my family for his willingness to help us. This truly shows
his character. Anyone who needs a loving, caring
vet, who really cares and would definitely be there for you and your
pet, I highly recommend Dr. Thompson and Willow Bend Animal Clinic. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Cathy Shaw Waterford
