By BARRY BURLESON
Three teams from Marshall County saw their seasons come to an end in round one of district tournament play February 7.
At the Region 3-3A Tournament in Independence, the Byhalia boys fell 56-43 to the host school.
The Indians trailed 34-21 at halftime but bounced back to knot the game at 41.
“They hit a big three to go up 46-41 and we couldn’t catch up,” coach Todd Hutchinson said.
Top scorers for Byhalia were Pat Stevenson with 15 and Kendrick Parker with 11.
“We did about all freshmen and sophomores could do,” he said. “They (Independence) have seven seniors.”
The Holly Springs girls dropped a 54-36 decision to Alcorn Central at the Region 1-3A Tournament in Booneville.
Megan Crittle was the top point producer in the loss. She scored 10.
The Lady Hawks were still in the game at the half, trailing 24-19. But the Lady Bears outscored Holly High 14-3 in the third.
At the Region 2-2A Tournament in Calhoun City, the Potts Camp boys had upset on their minds but came up short. They lost 52-43 to Walnut after leading 20-18 at halftime.
The game was tied at 33 following three quarters. Then Walnut took control in the fourth, outscoring the Cardinals 19-10.
