News Briefs‘Showtime’ part of film festival Sunday “Showtime,”
a documentary by Ben Guest featuring the H.W. Byers Lady Lions in their
state championship season last year, will be a part of the Oxford Film
Festival. It will be shown this Sunday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Malco Oxford Studio Cinema. Admission is $8. UNCF banquet set for Thursday at Rust Rust College will host the annual Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF banquet Thursday, Feb. 9, at Shaw Cafeteria at 7 p.m. Radio personality and Memphis icon Bev Johnson will be the keynote speaker for the event. Johnson
is a 1975 graduate of Rust and has been working in the radio and
entertainment industry for more than 30 years. She is well-known for
her show “The Bev Johnson Show,” which airs weekdays, 11 a.m.-12 noon
and 3-6 p.m. on WDIA AM1070. She has served as
NBPC news director, was selected as WOW Woman of the Year, and received
recognition from the Tennessee General Assembly and U.S. House of

Hubbard steps down as MA headmaster Marshall Academy Headmaster Jane Hubbard has resigned, effective May 31. Hubbard has served as headmaster at MA for six years. The
school’s board of directors met Monday night, and a search committee
has been formed as the process of selecting a new headmaster begins. Hubbard
said she and her husband, Bubba, who is director of Strawberry Plains
Audubon Center, will continue to live in Holly Springs and be a part of
the community. Byhalia police officers respond to 33 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 33 calls during the past week, according to chief Gary Looney. He
released the following report – alarm calls, 1; miscellaneous, 10,
escorts, 5; juvenile-related calls, 1; thefts, 1; disturbances, 3;
assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 4; fires, 1, medical calls, 5; and
harassment, 1. Byhalia police also made seven arrests last week.
