FeaturesRecipes from Martha Ruth Leonard Best of the Best from Mississippi Selected Recipes from Mississippi’s Favorite Cookbooks Homemade Rondelé 1 cup butter, softened 2 8-oz. pkgs. cream cheese softened 1/4 tsp. oregano 1/4 tsp. thyme 1/4 tsp. dill 1/4 tsp. marjoram 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. basil 1/4 tsp. garlic powder 1/4 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper Cream
butter and cheese together until light and fluffy. Add spices and mix
well. Form into a ball or place in a serving dish. Cover and chill.
Serve at room temperature with crackers or dark bread. Will keep for
several weeks refrigerated. Yield: 3 cups
Chicken Crescents 5 tbsps. melted butter, divided 3-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened 2 cups cooked, chopped chicken or turkey 1 tbsp. finely chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped pimiento 8-oz. can crescent rolls Mix
3 tbsps. melted butter and cream cheese. Add chicken, onion and
pimiento. Separate rolls into 4 rectangles. Seal perforations. Place
chicken mixture in center and pull up 4 corners. Seal edges. Drizzle
remaining 2 tbsps. butter over rolls. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
Pineapple Preserve Cake 2 sticks butter, softened 2 cups sugar 4 large eggs 1 cup pineapple preserves 3 cups plain flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 cup buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup chopped pecans Cream
butter with sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
Add preserves. Sift together all dry ingredients. Add to first mixture,
alternately with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla and pecans. Batter will be
very heavy. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 350° for 1 hour
and 15 minutes. Check for doneness, as ovens vary; it may take 15
minutes more.

Marshall County Board of Supervisors recently sided with members of the
Potts Camp Fire Department and county fire coordinator Hugh Hollowell
on a satellite station to be located in Bethlehem. Potts Camp Fire
Chief Eddie Mitchell said the new station will really help cut down on
response time. Long-awaited bypass set for construction Bids
have been opened on a Holly Springs bypass project initiated nine years
ago. The new road, when finished, will connect east and west highways
around the city, boosting industrial recruitment and easing traffic
loads. 25 Years Ago - February 5, 1987 County unit adopted The
Marshall County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to hire a county
administrator and implement the county unit system by April 1 of this
year. Voters endorsed the change by a three-to-one margin in the
November 8 election. The board adopted the proposal by a 4-0 vote. Commission asks supervisors to delay re-registration The
Marshall County Election Commission, in a closed-door session, voted
unanimously to request the Board of Supervisors to postpone countywide
re-registration until after the general election. The Election
Commission also stated it would begin immediately the job of purging
the voter rolls. 50 Years Ago - February 8, 1962 Cotton Report Figures
released by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce show that 34,169 bales of cotton
were ginned in Marshall County through Jan. 15, 1962. This compares
with 30,429 for last year. Mrs. McDermott honored The Cameo
Room of the Elite Cafe was the scene of a lovely miscellaneous shower
and tea complimenting Mrs. John Roderick McDermott Jr., a recent bride.
Hostess was Mrs. Ivy Reynolds. The honoree wore a trousseau frock of
beige brocade with a low cut neckline and a sheath skirt. Her
accessories were brown and she was presented a lovely corsage of pink
