Byhalia takes two from M.S. Palmer on ‘Senior Night’
By CLAUDE VINSON
In their last home games before the district playoffs, the Byhalia teams picked up a pair of important wins at home.
The Lady Indians started strong on “Senior Night” against the M.S. Palmer Lady Dragons, holding them to just six points in the first quarter (21-6) and then leading them 41-16 at intermission.
Byhalia, improving to 15-12 overall, held the Lady Dragons to a couple of points in the third and then poured it on in the final period to end it all at 81-43.
Quanisha Grayson led the charge for coach Renee Crenshaw’s Lady Indians with 21, followed by Shandricka Sessom with 17 and Kimberly Reed with 10.
Lashimba Windless led the Lady Dragons with 23, aided by eight from Alisia Bogan and six from Val Taylor.
The Indians found a pesky foe in the Dragons. Although they won the first quarter in a big way, they found themselves outplayed 24-4 in the third quarter. Their big production in their first two quarters served them well.
They had to fight the Dragons off again in the final frame when M.S. Palmer made another great push. The Indians stuck in there and escaped with a two-point (50-48) victory.
Pat Stevenson led Byhalia (4-20 on the season) with 11. The Indians got 10 from Demarcus Confer and eight from Dandrick Fifer.
The hot shot for the Dragons was Ladarius Jones with 23, Jimmy Jones threw in 11.
The Indians and Lady Indians play this week in the Region 3-3A Tournament at Independence.
