Suspects sought in robbery attempts By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two attempted armed robberies occurred in Holly Springs last week, according to chief William Hollowell. Holly
Springs police officers are seeking information that may help identify
a suspect who attempted to rob a manager at Fred’s in the parking lot

City returns grant dollars By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The City of Holly Springs has returned $80,019.39 in grant monies that would have been spent to restore Chalmers Institute. City
clerk Belinda McDonald said the city has sent the check to the
Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration. The original

Supervisors say no to mini-storage By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall County Board of Supervisors voted in December to deny a
special exception to a landowner who wanted to put a mini-storage in a
Residential Estates Zone. Supervisor Eddie Dixon
said Drew Cothern was at peace with not pushing ahead on the
mini-storage building he wanted to build on Highway 311 near Mt.
Pleasant. His request, which was approved by the zoning board on a
second pass, was hotly contested in an appeal to the board of
supervisors by residents in the area. Full Story

The
Byhalia Lions Club and numerous sponsors were on hand to say “thank you
to our soldiers” at the annual holiday season banquet, begun by Ronnie
and Brenda Luther and the Clydesdale Christmas Store. The
Lions Club has taken over the festive event, which provides a sit-down
dinner for veterans and Mississippi National Guardsmen and their
families from the Holly Springs/Hernando unit. Full Story
Family seeks help after house burns down Dorothy
Palmer of the Pitts Road area in the Waterford Community is seeking
assistance for her aunt and uncle whose house burned on Nabors Road
early Sunday morning. Hattie B. Pitts and M.C.
Pitts lost their home to fire, but the good news is that they both got
out alive, said chief Kenny Holbrook with the Holly Springs Fire
