Start the New Year off with a clean slate. Marshall
County Library System is having a “Forgiving Week.” Bring back your
overdue library materials the week of January 7-January 11 with no late
fees. They may be returned to any branch in Byhalia, Potts Camp or Holly Springs. If you have any questions, call the Marshall County Library at 252-3823. Deadline Thursday for Christmas edition The holiday edition of The South Reporter will be published next week, December 20. The deadline for Christmas greetings ads from businesses, elected officials and others is Thursday, Dec. 13, at noon. The December 20 edition of The South Reporter will include “Letters to Santa” from school children in the county. The
newspaper will have early deadlines for its December 27 edition due to
the Christmas holiday. Those deadlines will be on Friday, Dec. 21. Parade is Thursday; lighting contest Friday The “Byhalia Believes” Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for this Thursday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. Grand marshal this year is 2-year-old Ashlynn McClure. The Light Up the Town Lighting Contest is Friday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. There will be first and second place (cash awards) and honorable mention. • Best Overall (business, churches, industry), (residential). • Best Window and/or Door (business, churches, industry), (residential). - Most Original (residential). The contest, sponsored by Byhalia Garden Club and Byhalia Beautiful, is within the Byhalia City Limits. Byhalia police officers respond to 51 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 51 calls last week. Chief
Gary Looney responded to the following report – alarm calls, 2;
miscellaneous, 17; escorts, 10; juveniles, 1; disturbances, 3; animals,
1; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 2; fires, 1; medical, 9;
trespassing, 1; and DUI, 3. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week.
