Reed scores 39 in Lady Indians’ win
By BARRY BURLESON
Oh, what a night it was for Byhalia’s Kimberly Reed.
The freshman hit eight three-point shots and scored 39 points in the Lady Indians’ 67-31 win Friday at Winona.
“I was in a zone,” she said. “I made one, then two, and the next thing I knew, the team was telling me I had eight.
“I just wanted to help my team out on the offensive end. We were working hard defensively and I just wanted to help reward our effort on the other end.”
Coach Renee Crenshaw’s team was in control from the tipoff. They led 42-11 at halftime.
Reed had plenty of help from her teammates, too.
Shandricka Sessom scored 17 and had 12 rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Quanisha Grayson added five points and 10 rebounds. Latara Jones had three points, six steals and three assists. Jasmin Jones contributed two points and six rebounds.
The Byhalia girls improved to 5-4 in the district (third place) and 14-11 overall.
In the nightcap, the Indians dropped a 79-56 decision to Winona.
“It was their senior night and they started five,” coach Todd Hutchinson said. “We fell behind early.”
Byhalia trailed 25-8 following one quarter.
Pat Stevenson was the top scorer for the Indians. He had 21. Jeremy Wooten added 13.
The young Indians dropped to 3-19 overall and 1-8 in the district.
Byhalia teams hosted Byers Tuesday. They host MS Palmer Friday on Senior Night and then visit rival Holly Springs Saturday to end the regular season.
