The
bus yard behind Donald Street’s Wrecker Service at 281 North Memphis
Street in Holly Springs has been the visiting place of battery thieves. The
batteries out of a number of ICS Head Start buses were taken when
thieves cut through a chain-link fence, after breaking away the
exterior board fence that serves as a privacy fence. Street
said he lets ICS store its buses there at no charge and when a bus is
out of service another stored on his lot is pulled into service. The
big buses hold two batteries in a side panel and the smaller buses have
one battery under the hood. Both types have been taken. Full Story

in the Gordon Lakes Subdivision off Matthews Corner Road have decided
to take action about vandalism and other activities in their
communities. With the help and guidance of
their supervisor George Zinn III, the residents organized a road

Terry pushes small businesses By SUE WATSON Staff Writer New
supervisor Charles Terry, during a recent meeting, inquired whether the
county board has a policy that would favor minority contractors in the
bid process. “Do supervisors have any type of minority participation in place?” Terry asked. Board
attorney Kent Smith said federal compliance laws go along with any
projects paid for with federal funds – which require minority

Brenda
Luther, who with her husband Ronnie organized the Clydesdale Christmas
Store 18 years ago to provide toys and clothes for needy children,
received a high honor January 21. She was selected 2011 Woman of the Year by the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. Luther
said she would not be receiving this award had it not been for the
support of her friends and their commitment to the Clydesdale Christmas
Store. Luther shared the awards ceremony with four others. Full Story

Field Trial Hall of Fame ceremonies set for Feb. 11 Sporting dog fans from all over the country are heading to nearby Grand Junction, Tenn. They
will have plenty of reasons to celebrate this year since new milestones
have recently been accomplished at the National Bird Dog Museum. Little
did anyone realize in February 1991, that the small structure then
being dedicated as a “start-up” museum for bird dogs would grow and
prosper to such an extent that it is today – a spacious, modern
facility, and a destination for sporting dog fans from across the
continent. But this year is extra special and will long be
remembered…for a new building, new groups, and new events will be

Suspects charged in scrap metal theft; two suspects ID’d in theft of three trailers By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Marshall
County Sheriff’s Department investigators have made three arrests in
connection with a scrap metal theft, according to sheriff Kenny
Dickerson. One suspect is a juvenile and in
custody awaiting juvenile court action. Two others have been booked and

Byhalia police respond to 33 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 33 calls during the past week, according to chief Gary Looney. He
released the following report – alarm calls, 1; miscellaneous, 10,
escorts, 5; juvenile-related calls, 1; thefts, 1; disturbances, 3;
assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 4; fires, 1; medical calls, 5; and
harassment, 1. Byhalia police officers also made seven arrests last week.

family and friends of the late Harold “Bully” Palmer recently gathered
at Wilkins Chapel Road in Waterford to celebrate his dedication and
contributions to Marshall County. Palmer was a game warden with Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and a resident of Waterford. Full Story

hang-ups, 3; burglaries, 2; checks on shut-ins, 4; and 35 miscellaneous
