Obituaries

Icy Clarene Byers

Icy Clarene Byers, 73, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 3, 2012, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. She was the widow of Arthur Byers and a member of Evangel Full Gospel Assembly of God.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Evangel Gardens.

She leaves a daughter, Cynthia Machaud; three brothers, Larry Busby of Byhalia, Doyle Busby of Mt. Pleasant, Young Busby of Abbeville; two sisters, Mildred Brandon of Holly Springs, Mary Bumpas of Mt. Pleasant; and two grandchildren.

Hubert Cook

Hubert Cook, 92, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 29, 2012. He was a Baptist, a farmer and a veteran.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery. Rev. Melvin Lewis officiated.

He leaves a brother, William Doss Cook of Potts Camp; and two sisters, Ethel Mae Cobb of New Albany, Marie King of Potts Camp; nieces Janie Hooper, Lisa West and a nephew, Jackie West, all of Potts Camp.

Christine Riley Kimble

Christine Riley Kimble, 66, of Byhalia, died Nov. 27, 2012, at her home.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel of Hernando. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery.

She leaves her husband, Joe Kimble; three daughters, Sheryl Howard (Donnie) of Cordova, Tenn., Wendy Scruggs (Doyle) of Coldwater, Laura Jeanes (Greg) of Red Banks; a son, Bubba Rushing of Byhalia; a sister, Geneva Nance of Myrtle; a brother, Jabo Riley of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Frankie Lee Marion

Frankie Lee “Belly” Marion, 58, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 27, 2012, at Potts Camp School. He was a member of Spring Hill MB Church in Waterford and a school bus driver with Marshall County School District.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 at Potts Camp High School gymnasium. Burial was in Springhill MB Church Cemetery. Rev. L.G. Bogard officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Martha Turner Marion; two children, Falando Marion, Frankie Marion Jr., both of Potts Camp; his mother, Geneva Holden Marion of Potts Camp; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Beard.

Lucy Virginia Self

Lucy Virginia Self, 55, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 30, 2012, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. She was a Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ingomar Cemetery.

She leaves two sons, Christopher Self (Lacy) of Byhalia, Kevin Mitchell of Potts Camp; a stepdaughter, Colette Young of Potts Camp; two brothers, David Lewis of Ashland, Brian Lewis of Saltillo; two sisters, Linda Lewis of Sardis, Tina Lewis of Pontotoc; two grandchildren and her boyfriend, Richard Giel.

Mamie Lee Whaley

Mamie Lee Whaley, 82, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 26, 2012, at the home of David and Joyce Whaley. She was the widow of Jobe L. Whaley and a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery. Bro. Chuck Fowler officiated.

She leaves four sons, William Jobe Whaley of Holly Springs, Thad Lee Whaley (Debbie) of Hickory Flat, Jimmy Whaley (Sue), David Whaley (Joyce), both of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Brown Whaley.

Louvenia Williams

Louvenia Williams, 79, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 28, 2012, at her home. She was a retired domestic worker.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 at Hudsonville CME Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elder Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a sister, Irene Shackelford of St. Louis, Mo.; and three brothers, Lester Young of Detroit, Mich., Sylvester Tucker of St. Louis, Preston Freeman of Toledo, Ohio.

Joyce Ann Wilson

Joyce Ann Wilson (Thompson), 63, of Mt. Pleasant, died Nov. 18, 2012, at the home of her son, J. Shane Wilson in Louisville, Ky. She was a 1969 graduate of Slayden High School. She was employed by United Technologies Carrier in Collierville, Tenn. for the last 20 years. She was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church in Slayden.

Services were held Nov. 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery.

She leaves her son, J. Shane Wilson (Rhiannon); two sisters, Sara Thompson (Carl Hare) of Cherry Valley, Ark., Darleen Thompson (Dwight Skelton) of Holly Springs;

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Wayne Thompson.

W.C. Wilson

W.C. Wilson, 82, died Nov. 20, 2012.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Rev. Dennis Boyd Jr. officiated. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery in New Albany.

He leaves five children, Josiephine Wilson of Pontotoc, Vanessa Wilson of Chicago, Ill., Barnard Wilson of New Albany, Anthony Wilson of Memphis, Tenn., Earl Wilson of New Albany; a stepdaughter, Mesheal Matthews of Ashland; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross Wilson, Alfred Graham; a sister, Virgie King; three nephews, Willie Alfred Graham Jr., Joe Wilson and Sammuel Wilson.

Pallbearers were Barnard Wilson, Cedric Boyd, Benjamin Matthews, Anthony Wilson Jr. and Anthony Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Nikko Wilson, Shakeil Wilson and Courtney Gilbert.
