Lady Cards go to 9-0
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals remained unbeaten last week with two wins in the Walnut Tournament.
Coach Tana Miller’s team beat Alcorn Central by seven and the host school by 26 to go to 9-0 on the season.
The schedule really heats up this week. The Lady Cards started Region 2-2A play Tuesday night of this week versus Calhoun City. They host Marshall County rival H.W. Byers Friday
“It’s been a good November, but we realize it’s going to be a really tough week this week,” Miller said.
After those two games comes a trip to Ashland next Tuesday, Dec. 11, and then the Ingomar Tournament December 14-15.
The Potts Camp girls led by just one point heading into the fourth quarter versus Alcorn Central Thursday night at Walnut before winning 58-51.
Tenesha Woods kept up her solid point production in the early season. She poured in 21. Also scoring in double figures were Jessica Peterson with 16 and Hayley Davis with 11.
On Saturday, the Lady Cardinals struggled a bit in the early going versus Walnut, but they outscored the Lady Wildcats 23-4 in the third period on their way to a 65-39 victory.
Woods was again the top gun with 21. Brittany Pitts tossed in 17 and Peterson added 13.
The Potts Camps boys dropped three games in the Walnut Tournament.
They opened the three-day event with an 87-52 loss to Ripley.
The Cards trailed 40-25 at the half.
Jamarquis Foster, D’Arius Marble and Xavion Allen scored 12 points each in the loss.
The Cardinals couldn’t hang on versus the host school on Friday night. They let a one-point halftime lead slip away and fell 48-43 to Walnut.
Jarvis Jones scored 11.
Marble followed with 10.
The Potts Camp Cardinals then closed the tournament Saturday with a 77-62 setback to Alcorn Central.
The second quarter was the big difference. That’s when the Bears outscored the Cardinals 18-6.
Four Cardinals led a balanced attack in the loss – Foster with 14, Courtney Grimes with 13, Allen with 12 and Jordon Harris with 11.
