Holly
Springs showcased its festive side last weekend.
The
community turnout and participation for the 175th anniversary of the
city and celebration of Christmas and the annual Tour of Homes were a
resounding success, organizers said.
The
event
opened Friday night with Mayor Andre’ DeBerry providing a history of
the town and welcome on the courthouse lawn. Beside him was U.S.
Senator Roger Wicker, whose ancestors are from Marshall County as are
DeBerry’s. Full Story
Burglary suspects arrested By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
suspects have been arrested and charged with burglary of residences in
the Humphreys Road and Laws Hill communities, according to sheriff
Kenny Dickerson. One suspect has been arrested and charged with grand larceny in a separate incident. Full Story

Christmas Cheer group readies for Santa’s list By SUE WATSON Staff Writer On
December 15, toys and clothes will be distributed to the needy and
December 22 is the date for distribution of food (care boxes) to
seniors and the disabled, according to supervisor George Zinn III, one
of the originators of the Christmas Cheer Committee in Marshall County.
This is about the sixth year the not-for-profit
North Mississippi Community Research Training and Development
Organization has distributed goods to the needy during the Christmas

Kinkade jubilant at election win By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Bill
Kinkade and Virginia Armour took home the bacon in last week’s runoff
election with about 10 percent of eligible voters participating. Kinkade,
who will serve the remaining three years of former Rep. Tommy Woods’

Holly Springs police go to 106 calls • Nine suspects arrested, charged with felonies The
Holly Springs Police Department responded to 106 calls this past week
and made nine felony arrests, according to Chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 6; alarms, 17; larcenies, 2; assaults,
1; accidents, 7; assists to other agencies, 7; domestics, 3; funeral
escorts, 4; burglaries, 1; welfare check, 2; auto burglary, 1; arson,
1; and miscellaneous, 54. Full Story
County businesses feel tax crunch By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
businesses have come before the board of supervisors in recent weeks
asking for tax relief. A problem has been that they did not come before
the board in August to appeal their 2012 property taxes. Blake
Soule, who has a furniture refinishing business on Quality Drive in
Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park, said he built a structure expecting to
rent space in it as well as run his own business. He has been left with
renters owing him substantial sums of money and his note at the bank is
too high. He got caught in the squeeze, he said, because he may have
built too soon and got caught in the downturn of the economy. Full Story |
