Clara
Louise Duncan, 97, died Nov. 19, 2012, at the home of her daughter. She
was the widow of Preston Duncan. She was a lifelong resident of DeSoto
County. She was a member of Fountain Head Methodist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fountain Head Cemetery. She
leaves four children, Arthur J. (Martha Sue) Duncan of Palm Beach,
Fla., Melvin (Betty) Duncan, Eva Mae Murphy, Martha (Millard) Gadd, all
of the Ingram’s Mill Community; nine grandchildren 13
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Frances Hightower Frances Hightower, 79, of Red Banks, died Nov. 25, 2012. She was a Baptist. Memorial
services were held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the home of Carolyn and Jim

leaves her husband, Calvin Hightower of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons,

Marjorie
Walls Holts, 65, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 23, 2012, at Methodist
University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of B.D. Holts.
She was a church trustee, former Sunday school secretary and retired
seamstress with ABC Corporation. Services were
held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Mt. Zion CME Church in Ashland, where she
was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Morris Stephens

of Water Valley, Joel Holts of Lake Center; three brothers, Albert

Peoria, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Willie Holts and Ben Holts. Viola Hawkins Lollar Viola Hawkins Lollar, 87, of Potts Camp, died Nov. 20, 2012, at Baptist Memphis Hospital. Services were held at Potts Camp Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery in Hickory Flat. She

Ebin
Nevels Jr., 60, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Red Banks, died Nov. 20,
2012, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was a retired laborer
with the City of St. Louis. Services were held at
11 a.m. on Nov. 27 at New Hope CME Church in Red Banks, where he was a

Stephen “Poncho” Pannell, 55, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 24, 2012. He
was a member of Red Banks Baptist Church and employed with Marshall
County Road and Bridge Department. He was a farmer. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 27 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery. He
leaves his wife, Becky Pannell; his daughter, Summer Pannell of
Slayden; his father and stepmother, Arthur Richard “Pete” Pannell and
Kay Pannell of Red Banks; two brothers, Randy Pannell, Terrell Pannell,

Wilson Hurdle, 93, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 24, 2012, at Alliance
HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Horace Hurdle,
her husband of 50 years. She retired from Wurlitzer and was a member of
First Baptist Church of Holly Springs. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. She

James Waverly Polk, 69, of Byhalia, died Nov. 25, 2012, at Collierville
Baptist Hospital. He was a Southern Baptist and pastor of Clear Creek
Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran. Services

Ann Tucker, 56, of Lamar, died Nov. 20, 2012. She was a Jehovah’s
Witness for more than 30 years. She attended Rust College, Dragons
Business College, where she received a diploma in business
administration. She attended Memphis State University in Memphis,
Tenn., where she studied pharmacy, then Ohio State to complete her
degree. Memorial services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 24 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. She
leaves her mother, Iola E. Tucker of Lamar; two sisters, Ret. SFC Isa
D. Semper of Elizabethtown, Ky., Brenda (Calvin) Lindsey of Memphis,
Tenn.; three brothers, Larry C. Tucker, Lakeo Gilmore of Lamar, Trent
L. Tucker of Pa.; She was preceded in death by her oldest brother, George J. Tucker. Cortney Montez Turnage
Cortney
Montez Turnage, 32, of Olive Branch, died Nov. 20, 2012, at his home.
He was a disabled construction worker with All Star Waste Service. Services
were held at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Hamilton Chapel CME Church in
Waterford, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Jean Walker, 54, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 14, 2012, at Baptist
Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a member of Hamilton Chapel CME
Church in Waterford and disabled. Services were
held at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 24 at New Dimension Salt & Light
Ministries in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden.

in charge of arrangements. She leaves two
children, Fantasia Walker of Jackson, Candice Walker of Frankfort, Ky.;
three sisters, Janice Jean Walker of Holly Springs, Elaine Williams of
Oxford, Mary Walker Collie of Milwaukee, Wisc.; three brothers, Delois
“Blade” Walker of Memphis, Charles Walker, Dennis Walker, both of Holly
Springs; and three grandchildren.
