Lighting ceremony this Friday in Byhalia
The Town of Byhalia kicks off the Christmas season this Friday.
The Byhalia tree and display lighting ceremony, which includes visits with Santa, starts at 6:30 p.m. November 30 in Brunswick Gazebo Park.
The annual holiday parade will follow the next weekend. It is set for Saturday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. Grand marshal this year is 2-year-old Ashlynn McClure.
If you would like to be a part of the “Byhalia Believes” Christmas Parade this year, contact the Byhalia Town Hall (662-838-2135) no later than December 3.
Holly Springs parade slated for Saturday
The annual Holly Jolly Christmas Parade in downtown Holly Springs will be held this Saturday.
The parade lineup begins at 3 p.m. December 1 in the Old Colonial parking area, with judging at 4 p.m. The parade starts at 5 p.m.
Grand marshal for the Holly Springs holiday parade is Nancy Hutchens, who served 24 years as an alderman.
The parade is sponsored by the Main Street Chamber and this year is also a part of the city’s 175th birthday celebration, which starts this Friday at 5 p.m. on the square and continues with activities throughout the weekend.

Rust College choir in concert this Sunday
The world renowned Rust College A’Cappella Choir will host its annual Christmas Concert Sunday, Dec. 2, under the direction of Dorothy Lee Jones.
The Rust College A’Cappella Choir will perform modern and traditional spirituals and holiday selections.
The annual Christmas Concert, presented by the Rust College Lyceum Committee, will be held in Morehouse Auditorium of the Doxey Alumni Fine Arts-Communication Center at 6 p.m. This event is free and the public is invited.
Byhalia police officers respond to 36 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 36 calls during the past week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – miscellaneous, 17; escorts, 2; thefts, 1; disturbances, 2; motor vehicle accidents, 1; fires, 3; medical, 9; and DUI, 1.
Byhalia officers also made three arrests and issued nine citations last week.
