They fell 6-5 Friday night at home to Cleveland East Side in a hotly-contested, north state semi-final playoff clash. Byers, Ashland split pair By CLAUDE VINSON The H.W. Byers Lady Lions and the Ashland Lady Blue Devils tipped it off on Tuesday evening of last week at the home court of the Lady Devils. It was a tipoff between a pair of unbeatens in the girls game. Each had an early season record of 2-0. Behind The Scoreboard Shakeup in the BCS This season is no different than preceding years since the inception of the BCS. Just days ago, the Oregon Ducks were rated as number one, replacing the Crimson Tide. By game time in week 12 on Saturday, there had been a flip and Kansas State was ranked one in the nation by the BCS and Oregon was two. Notre Dame was rated three and remained that way until they killed Wake Forest on Saturday. Albeit practically assured a BCS bowl berth, the Irish are not really touted as a national title holder. Don’t ask. Pats to face Cougars for title Marshall Academy hopes the third time is a charm. The Patriots are going to the state football championship game for just the third time in school history, still seeking their first-ever state title in the sport. Lady Cardinals 6-0; Cards get first win By BARRY BURLESON The Potts Camp varsity girls remained unbeaten last week with three more wins. Meanwhile, the varsity boys earned their first victory of the young season in an overtime thriller. Indians beat Mustangs, Gators By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Indians recorded their first two wins of the season over the weekend in the Lewisburg Invitational Tournament. Coach Todd Hutchinson’s team routed Strayhorn 79-39 and squeezed past Lake Cormorant 64-62. They improved to 2-4. Byers sweeps Holly High By BARRY BURLESON H.W. Byers invaded rival Holly Springs Friday night and left with two wins. The Lady Lions had no trouble in the opener as they rolled to a 92-42 victory. Marshall takes two from West Memphis By BARRY BURLESON The Marshall Academy basketball teams took double-digit wins over West Memphis Christian Monday, Nov. 12, at home. Peyton Lewis and Devonte Smith combined for 57 points in the Patriots’ 65-55 victory over the Black Knights. |
