Lady Cardinals 6-0; Cards get first win By BARRY BURLESON Editor The Potts Camp varsity girls remained unbeaten last week with three more wins. Meanwhile, the varsity boys earned their first victory of the young season in an overtime thriller. Lady Cardinals Coach
Tana Miller’s team rolled to double-digit wins over Hickory Flat,
Alcorn Central and Falkner. The Lady Cards improved to 6-0 on the
season. Tenesha Woods continued to power the
Potts Camp offense. She blistered the nets for 30 points in a 64-49
victory over Hickory Flat November 12 at home. Other top scorers for the Lady Cards were Brittany Pitts with 12 and Zana Davis with 11. Potts Camp dominated in the first half as it built a 33-16 advantage. Megan Roth scored 12 for the Lady Rebels. The Lady Cardinals then hit the road the following night, November 13, and picked up a 70-47 win over Alcorn Central. “Alcorn Central is a good team in a tough division,” coach Tana Miller said. “We pushed the ball and got some good shots. “We clicked early and built up a good lead in the second quarter.” Hayley Davis and Woods poured in 19 points each. Pitts followed with 10. Potts Camp finished off its second perfect week to start the season with an 89-45 rout of Falkner Friday at home. The
Lady Eagles were within three after one quarter but the Lady Cardinals
outscored the visitors 24-7 in the second and 31-9 in the third. Four hit for double digits in the win – Woods with 24, Pitts 16, Peterson 12 and Zana Davis 10. Cardinals The Potts Camp boys fell to Hickory Flat and Alcorn Central before getting into the win column versus Falkner. Their season mark went to 1-5. The
Cardinals and Rebels battled neck-and-neck on Monday night, Nov. 12.
The game was tied at 34 entering the fourth quarter. That’s when
Hickory Flat outscored the home team 13-10 for a 47-44 victory. “We played well but just came up short,” Potts Camp coach Shawn Holtz said. “It was a hard-fought game.” D’Arius Marble and Jamarquis Foster scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Cardinals. Leading the Rebels in point production was James White with 14. The Cards lost 75-62 Tuesday of last week at Alcorn Central. “Offensively, we just couldn’t get going,” Holtz said. Jordon Harris led Potts Camp with 18. Javeon Allen had 11. Potts
Camp and Falkner hooked up Friday night in a tight battle throughout.
But the Cardinals outscored the Eagles 11-3 in overtime for an exciting
54-46 win. “We had a couple of plays go our way
in overtime, and we started believing we could get the win,” Holtz
said. “We defended well. It was nice to get that win.” Foster burned the nets for 18. Jarvis Jones and Marble added 13 and 11, respectively. Schedule Potts Camp squads hosted Byhalia Tuesday. Next up is the Walnut Tournament November 26-December 1.
