Lady Cardinals off to strong start
By BARRY BURLESON
The Potts Camp girls are off to a 3-0 start.
Coach Tana Miller saw her team down Myrtle, Ripley and Blue Mountain in the first week of a new basketball season.
“We opened up with a busy week,” she said. “I definitely think the win over Ripley was a big confidence builder. You never know what week one is going to look like, but we came out with a strong week.”
The Lady Cards had no trouble with Myrtle Tuesday of last week in the season opener, rolling to a 52-21 win at home.
Potts Camp scored 11 in the first quarter, while holding the Lady Hawks scoreless. The lead was 25-10 at halftime.
Three players hit for double digits – Tenesha Woods and Brittany Pitts with 12 each and Hayley Davis with 10.
The Class 2A Potts Camp girls used a strong third quarter to turn back Class 3A power Ripley 73-69 Thursday night at home.
The Lady Cardinals trailed 32-27 at the half but outscored the visitors 30-18 in the third. Then they hung on in the fourth.

The Cardinal roster includes four seniors, one junior and seven sophomores.
“Everybody is a year older, and that helps,” coach Shawn Holtz said about his Class 2A squad. “We are looking a lot better (than last year).”
Another busy week follows this week.
