Patriots survive road test

Marshall Academy withstood a huge first-round challenge Friday night on the road.

The Patriots scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to down a gritty Canton Academy squad 20-7 and advance in the Class AA state playoffs.

Byhalia shuts out Mooreville

Byhalia pitched a second consecutive shutout in Indian land last Friday night, this time against first round playoff foe Mooreville.

The Indians had secured the home field advantage a week earlier by blanking district contender North Panola.

Lions end on winning note

H.W. Byers took out its frustration of not making the state playoffs by blasting Biggersville in the season finale Friday.

The Lions scored nine touchdowns in a 62-8 win. They finished 4-7 overall and 4-4 in Region 1-1A.

Potts Camp dedicates new facility to Oakley

The new athletic facility at Potts Camp School was officially named the Oakley Sportsplex in a pre-game ceremony October 26.

The recognition is in memory of Warrenne Oakley. She once owned the land that was donated to the school by her daughter, Mary Louise Merrill.

Byers squads tip off with wins

The two-time defending state champs served notice they’re in the hunt once again.

The H.W. Byers Lady Lions, who have won back-to-back Class 1A crowns, scorched Class 5A Hernando 83-30 Saturday to start a new season. It was the opening game in the Olive Branch Classic.
