Wagg, Ables win
school board posts

Janice
Wagg and Daniel Ables were elected to the Marshall County School Board
in Tuesday’s election.
Wagg
defeated Rebecca Podewils in the District 3 race. The unofficial total
in the six precincts was 1,068 votes to 461.
Ables
beat Lakisha Peterson in the District 4 race by a count of 1,160 to
568. The district includes eight precincts.

Citizen appeals tax hike By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Some Marshall County residents, particularly in District 3, are still complaining about their property tax reappraisals. One
of those is Clarence Gates. He appeared before the board of supervisors
recently to appeal the reappraisal of some of his property, which he
said went up four times its prior appraisal. Full Story

Night, held each Tuesday in October on the square in Holly Springs,
wrapped up last week with a large crowd and a variety of gospel
soloists and groups. One of those was the Pleasant Grove M.B. Church

Holly Springs police go to 98 calls, make four felony arrests Holly Springs police officers responded to 98 calls last week, according to chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 11; alarms, 11; larcenies, 7; assaults,
1; burglaries, 1; accidents, 5; assists to agencies, 1; 911 hang-ups,
2; shots fired, 1; auto theft, 1; malicious mischief, 1; domestics, 3;

Bethlehem Church expands sanctuary, school By SUE WATSON Staff Writer When
Steve Wilson turned over the pulpit at Bethlehem Church of the Lord
Jesus Christ in October 2008, to concentrate on his new role as bishop,
he talked about the austere beginnings of the little church headed up
by his father, J. Frank Wilson. Steve Wilson’s son, Patrick, would have stepped into his shoes, but died in an unfortunate accident while in college. Full Story
Byhalia police respond to thefts, accidents, more calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 36 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 8;
miscellaneous, 8; escorts, 2; thefts, 2; disturbances, 1;
animal-related calls, 1; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 2; fires,
1; medical, 9; and harassment, 1. Byhalia police officers also made four arrests during the past week and wrote 18 citations.
