Shooting suspect in custody; two sought
By SUE WATSON
A shooting between three suspects caused no injuries at H&R Grocery on Cayce Road Saturday, said sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
One suspect has been arrested and is in jail while two other suspects remain at large, he said.
Officers were called to the grocery around 5:30 p.m., Oct. 13, where witnesses identified three suspects who had been involved in shooting firearms at each other during a dispute, Dickerson said.
The shooting involved two individuals in a car and one person on foot, he said
Felix Richmond, 32, of the 1500 block of French Road, Byhalia, was arrested and transported to Marshall County jail where he was charged with aggravated assault, Dickerson said. He remained in jail Tuesday under a hold with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
A search for another suspect, who fled into a wooded area behind the French Road address, was not productive, the sheriff said.
A warrant for the arrest of the two suspects who are being sought was to be issued Tuesday, he said.
“No one was struck by bullets, but the area was congested with children and several adults who could have been struck and injured,” Dickerson said.
In a dog-biting incident that took place Wednesday, Oct. 10, a 9-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull and transported to LeBonheur, Dickerson said.
The incident was reported around 4 p.m. Deputies were called to a residence on Pin Oak Drive, where the child was injured. The child was airlifted to the hospital and the dog put in quarantine.
Dickerson said the child was visiting at a neighbor’s house when the attack took place.
A followup on the condition of the child found her released from the hospital after treatment for injuries to the back of the head and both ears, Dickerson said.
Her condition has been improving daily. Her mother reported to investigators that she is thankful the child is doing all right and thankful for the support from all emergency response agencies following the incident last week, he said.
The pit bull attack remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department.
