Three shootings under investigation By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Marshall
County investigators are seeking additional information in three
shootings, one resulting in death, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. He
asked anyone who has information that may help solve the three cases to
call 662-252-1311 and leave tips with crime investigators or to call
Crime Stoppers at 800-729-2169. Callers may remain anonymous. The first incident occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Ridge Road. An Olive Branch man was killed. Dickerson
said Miguel Angel Cruz Jr., 24, died of a single gunshot wound to the
chest. The case is being investigated as a homicide. “No one has been charged at this time,” the sheriff said, while investigators continue to seek additional information. Coroner
James Richard Anderson said an autopsy is being performed. The shooting
was called in at 10:07 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, Anderson said. Another
incident involved an armed robbery by two suspects at a Walnut Circle
residence off Mathews Corner Road Sunday, Sept. 30. “Two
armed suspects kicked in a door and robbed Elbert Joyner and a female
in the residence,” Dickerson said. “Joyner was shot during the initial
robbery and remains in The Med in critical condition.” Another
Sunday, Sept. 30, shooting at about 2:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of
Highway 349 South in Potts Camp is also under investigation, Dickerson
said. Officers and investigators were dispatched
to the scene, where Wesley Benson of Stone Road in Potts Camp was found
shot inside the residence. He was airlifted to The Med where he is
recovering from a gunshot wound. Dickerson again
asked that anyone who has any information concerning these cases to
call his office or Crime Stoppers. Callers may leave tips with
investigators anonymously. Information provided will be strictly held
in confidence.
