and resurfacing of U.S. 78 from West Holly Springs exit to the
Marshall/Benton county line is behind schedule, according to Mitch
Turner, engineer with the Mississippi Department of Transportation,
District 2. Rogers Group started work on December
12, 2011, after receiving notice to proceed July 7, 2011, he said.
District 1 is handling inspection on the project, he said. The Highway 78 segment being done by Rogers Group is scheduled for completion November 13, Turner said. “As
of now they are 36.59 percent complete with 71.17 percent elapsed
time,” Turner said. “As with any project that extends past completion
date or exceeds the allotted number of work days, Rogers Group would be
charged liquidated damages (if they do not complete the work on
schedule).” There was some rework of paving on a
section of the highway west of the West Holly Springs Exit by
Lehman-Roberts. The areas of repaving were from Byhalia to the West
Holly Springs Exit, Turner said. Turner said
Lehman-Roberts had placed some 19.5 mm mix but was not satisfied with
the profile, so the company milled some of it off at its own expense to
provide a smoother ride. Lehman-Roberts also had some areas at bridge
ends, temporarily paved to provide a smooth transition, that are now
being milled to accept the final layer of asphalt, he said. Spider Walk scheduled Saturday at Audubon Strawberry Plains Audubon Center will host Twilight Series: Nighttime Spider Walk Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person. Participants
