City schools shining
By BARRY BURLESON
The Holly Springs School District is making great strides in academic performance.
The local district was one of 50 statewide to receive a Successful rating. Only 32 districts scored higher. Of the 50 Successful districts, Holly Springs was one of only 14 with all schools earning a rating of Successful or higher, according to superintendent Irene Walton Turnage. There are 152 districts total.
“Our mission is to educate students who can compete in the global economy,” Turnage said. “Our vision is to become a Star district with Star schools – the highest attainable ranking in the state. We are a united district with one mission. Our students are our number one priority.”
Turnage said the district has also improved in other areas – like graduation rate (77.4) – which is higher than several districts in surrounding counties.
“We are excited about the improvement in test scores and graduation rate, as well as sustained increases in student achievement,” she said.
