Chelsey Gilliam has long been a star on the Marshall Academy softball team.
Next year she will be shining at Northwest Community College.
The MA senior, on the team since the sixth grade and a starter since the eighth, signed with the Lady Rangers last week.
“We are going to miss Chelsey a lot,” coach Carlton Gibson said. “It has been a true pleasure to coach her. I appreciate all of her hard work and dedication to the sport. I know Northwest is getting a great first baseman, and I have no doubt Chelsey will be successful.”
Gilliam’s batting average over the five years as a starter was .365. She hit eight home runs.
She was named to the all-state tournament team in 2007 and 2008, when the Lady Patriots won back-to-back Class AA state championships. She has also claimed several all-conference honors and she was a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools all-star.
She is the daughter of Jimbo and Mary Beth Gilliam.
