Defense key in Cardinals’ win
By BARRY BURLESON
Potts Camp relished the role of spoiler Friday night.
Not only did the Cardinals deal Strayhorn its first loss of the season but they did it on the Mustangs’ homecoming. The final score was 18-7.
One of the perennial rivalries was taken up once again Friday night when Byhalia hosted Holly Springs for supremacy between 3A Marshall County teams.
The Indians were over the ball first with Markeise Rodgers under center after a decent return by Andrey Collins. The offense stalled, however, so they had to punt on fourth and 15. There was no working clock due to an electrical malfunction, so time was being kept on the field.
Lady Patriots go to 19-3
The Marshall Academy softball team picked up another district win last week and then won two of three in the Carroll Tournament.
MA 12 Indianola 6
Marshall shut Indianola Academy down in the top of the first and then answered with 10 runs in the bottom of the first to push the game out of reach.
Patriots drop first of season to Colts
By BARRY BURLESON
The second half Friday night at Clarksdale started on a sour note for Marshall Academy and did not get any better.
The Class AA Patriots gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown to begin the third quarter and followed that with two second-half turnovers. They lost their first game of the season, 16-7, to Class AAA Lee Academy.
Behind The Scoreboard
Interesting weekend in NFL
I am not going to be trite by using the old cliché, “This was the week(end) that was,” but the NFL got a chance to try out its latest new rule. The “sudden death” overtime has met a, well, sudden death. Now each team has an opportunity to score.
MA falls to Indianola
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots fell 7-0 to Indianola last week, but coach Lance McGregor got plenty of fight from his young soccer team.
