Letters to The Editor Thanks for support Dear Barry, I
want to thank you and Sue Watson for covering the events and meetings
of the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce for the past several years. As
the recent article on the “Supervisors want a county Chamber” stated,
“we got more than we bargained for,” but maybe it was a good deal,
especially for Marshall County to be aware of the Chamber’s mission for
the past 24 years. The supervisors have been very open and supportive.
I would like to thank them. One of the goals they set by a motion is to
get people together to talk and discuss the future. Based
on a recent resolution, the board of supervisors is committed to the
growth of economic development and will continue to develop, cultivate
and create economic growth opportunities to improve the quality of life
for all citizens of Marshall County. These statements go hand in hand with the Chamber’s mission statement. Granted,
at this time the BACC is unable to cover the entire county based on
mileage, funding and staffing but we do include the other communities
as much as possible through communication, invitations, advertising and
membership. This may be an outreach that may be worked out with the
Holly Springs Chamber to assist in this coverage. The
purpose of our visit to the board of supervisors was to thank them for
the support. When people and organizations work together, much more is
accomplished for the good. If the residents and
businesses in the county do not know about the BACC, we certainly want
to continue to set priorities to increase this awareness to others. The
Chamber assists and promotes Marshall County through its connection
with elected officials, government agencies, schools, industries,
tourism, beautification, leadership, businesses, public relations,
community events, jobs and teamwork. How do we
partner to continue another 24 years of a business and community
organization that is bringing creative, economic and social change to
Marshall County communities, businesses and organizations? How do we
keep going? Together, we do it with good leadership and a deep
commitment to improving this “prime location” and by continuing the
hard work to expand the opportunities; that is how. It is done with
support of vital resources. Through national,
state and local connections, the Chamber promotes, represents, as well
as advertises and markets, the Byhalia area and the Marshall County
area through many venues and networking opportunities. Everyone
benefits, as this work is to enhance our quality of life and sense of
community. By building a strong organization, the
Chamber has a perspective of what it takes to move forward. For the
past several years, the Chamber began serving the Marshall County area
by understanding how leaders and teams work through challenges to
collaborate, innovate and sustain a successful organization. I
want to thank you once again for your help and support in so many areas
of promotions and providing the news. The BACC has recognized and shown
our appreciation in many ways over the years and plans to continue
doing so. We encourage residents and businesses
to buy subscriptions. We were so proud to be able to present Business
of the Month to you and your staff as it was well deserved. Another way
we support your business is to buy advertising when we have a large
event. The South Reporter and the Pigeon Roost News help in promotions
and provide current news about Marshall County. You are a “business” –
not a free tabloid. I encourage others to join us in purchasing
advertising. People want us to continue being
“all” no matter what the situation. I feel that it is a win-win if
people and businesses support each other. It is amazing how many have
stated that they “want the Chambers to remain the same” but do not make
an investment in either Chamber of Commerce. You
and your staff do an exceptional job and I know your staff “burns the
candle at both ends” to produce a quality newspaper for the area. We
want to say we appreciate you and will continue to do all we have done
to promote your business. We need The South Reporter and Pigeon Roost
News. Keep up the great work for so many of us. Sarah Sawyer, Executive Director, Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce
