Community NewsPotts Camp News Billy Joe and Jason Jarrett attend motorcycle rally in Mountain View, Ark Correction: Last week I stated that Aug. 26 was the birthday of Dene Randolph. It was the birthday of her husband, Don Randolph. She will celebrate her birthday on Sept. 27. Happy belated birthday to Don! Sorry about the mistake. An early birthday lunch was held for Tiffany Erwin, daughter of Sandra (Hunsucker) Gillard and granddaughter of the late Virginia (King) Hunsucker on Sunday at the home of her aunt, Mildred (King) Marbury. She is a captain in the U.S. Army and will be leaving Sept. 3 to serve a three-year stint in Germany. Several family members joined Tiffany to wish her a happy birthday and wish her well on her journey. Also in attendance were Herb and Martha (Marbury) Harkleroad of Bowling Green, Ky., who also came to attend the funeral of Jo Ragsdale in Holly Springs on Monday. Sympathy is extended to the family of Jo Ragsdale. She was a special lady and one whom I enjoyed knowing during my early working career. Congratulations to Justin and Becka Dewberry on the arrival of their first child, a daughter, Emerson Taylor who was born at 10:51 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23. She weighed seven pounds and is 20.5 inches long. Justin is the Mississippi Forestry Commission service forester (formerly known as county forester) for both Marshall and Benton counties. Hanna Goolsby celebrated her birthday at Red Lobster in Tupelo on Saturday with her parents, Lynn and Martha Goolsby, and her grandmother, Joyce Clayton. She is a student at Delta State majoring in elementary education. Nancy Green also celebrated her birthday with family members on Sunday afternoon. Hawaiian cake, coffee and tea were served. The youth of Temperance Hill Baptist Church went on an outing to Incredible Pizza in Memphis on Saturday. Mitch Stone was one of the featured singers at the Benton County Fair in Ashland on Wednesday night of last week. He was the featured singer on Friday night. Also, on Wednesday night another featured singer was David Hunsucker, husband of Merion (Goolsby) Hunsucker, daughter of Joyce Clayton. Dr. Alisea McLeod was guest speaker at the monthly genealogical meeting at the Marshall County Library on Saturday, Aug. 25. She spoke on the “Last Road to Freedom.” Dr. McLeod has done extensive research on this topic and gave a great presentation with many questions during and after the program. Attending from Potts Camp were Sandra Beaver, Jeanette Stone, Margaret Hart and Mary Minor. Jeanette will be presenting a program on “Natural Dyes” at the September 22 meeting. Jimmy Duncan of Meridian and Shirley Schultz of Memphis, Tenn., were recent visitors of their cousin, Jean Gurley. They all attended the 75th birthday party of their aunt, Warene Floyd, in New Albany on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 19. Billy Joe Jarrett and son, Jason, were among 10 motorcycle enthusiasts from this area who traveled to Mountain View, Ark., recently to attend a motorcycle rally. He said there were around 8,000 in attendance for the three-day rally. We are thankful for the rain that came on Saturday. Everything has been so dry and parched that it was a welcome relief to have the rain and cooler temperatures. We should remember to count our blessings each and every day. Happy birthday to Elizabeth Gholston Cox, Sept. 3; Blake Randolph, Sept. 6; Anna Kathryn Passons, Sept. 6; and Tiffany Erwin, Sept. 7. Happy wedding anniversary to Harold and Nancy Green on Sept. 5. Prayer requests: Sue Rowland, Christine Epting, E.B. Sanders, Emma May Blanton, Donna Chumney, Susan Howell, Rev. Jim Smith, Tom and Shirley Bready, Betty Rose Jones, Joan Kelly, David Rooker, Spider Cook, Lorette Overall, Mike Shaw, Sarah Day, Linda Bumpas, Talmadge and Marie Edwards, Ann Callicutt, John Eckols, Philip Cox, Betty Fincher, Katie Smithwick, Shirley Dillard, and Polly (Poole) Pratt, and George and Dorothy Dickey.
