MA girls improve to 12-1
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots continued their winning ways on the softball diamond last week.
The victories included two big ones to start District 1-AA play.
MA 11 Kirk 0
Alaken McNeer pitched all five innings Tuesday of last week at home. She struck out two, walked none and gave up just one hit versus the rival Lady Raiders.
Leading the offense were Kat Moore, who went two for two, and Maura Autry, who was two for three.
Also picking up one hit each was Hayleigh Mason, Alexis McGreger and Macie McClure.
MA 2 North Delta 1
The sweetest win of the week came Thursday afternoon at Lady Patriot Field versus the Lady Green Waves.
McNeer pitched all seven innings – giving up four hits, striking out three and walking none.
Moore was two of four with the bat. Megan Watkins was two for three. Getting one hit each were McClure, Darcie Gibson, Elizabeth Skelton and McGreger.
“It was a big win for our program,” coach Carlton Gibson said.
MA 8 Magnolia Heights 1
The Lady Patriots played just one game Saturday in the Exposure Tournament at Starkville before the rain hit.
But in that one contest, the MA girls were dominant.
McNeer pitched all four innings for the win.
Leading the offense was McClure, who was three for three.
Picking up one hit each were Moore, Autry, Skelton and Hailey McMinn.
The Lady Patriots (12-1) hosted district foe Carroll Academy Monday of this week, and visited Kirk Tuesday. They will host Magnolia Heights Thursday at 4:30 p.m., host West Memphis Christian next Monday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. and then travel to Carroll next Tuesday, Aug. 28, for a 5 p.m. contest.
