A history-making night awaits Friday in the small Marshall County town of Potts Camp. For the first time ever, the Cardinals will play a home football game on campus with the grand opening of the new sports complex. Defense powers Cards By BARRY BURLESON It was a strange but successful preseason football jamboree Friday night for Potts Camp. The Cardinals scored three times on defense in a two-quarter contest. They trounced Houlka 31-0 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the Ole Miss campus in Oxford. Byers blanks Bucs By CLAUDE VINSON The H.W. Byers Lions got a small taste of victory in a preseason contest last Friday on their home field. MA tunes up; Chiefs visit Friday night By BARRY BURLESON The preseason football jamboree is a measuring stick. “We’ve come a long way,” said Bart Jenkins, head coach at Marshall Academy, “but we definitely have some work to do, too.” Lady Patriots win tournament crown In five games last week, the Marshall Academy softball team outscored its opponents 54-5. That included three shutouts en route to taking the first-place trophy in the Lee Academy Tournament Saturday at Clarksdale. Behind The Scoreboard Closing out the Games Well, the Brits have had their stint at staging the best social (athletically?) event of the world (except maybe for the World’s Fair). And while I can only give them a B+ when comparing to the Chinese, for their opening and closing, I have to give them an overall “gold.” I admit to being just a little bit partial since I had the pleasure of visiting the United Kingdom twice. If you have ever been there, then you were probably catching yourself looking hard at certain landmarks to see if there had been any really obtuse changes. There was lots of room for nostalgic tripping. Byhalia defense shines By BARRY BURLESON Byhalia stepped up a few classifications for its preseason jamboree opponent. “We wanted a challenge – a chance to play a bigger school and see where we stand,” coach John Danley said about facing DeSoto Central. falls to Immanuel The Marshall Academy soccer team struggled on a long road trip to Steens (near Columbus) last week. The young Lady Pats fell 6-0 to Immanuel Christian and remained winless on the young season. |
