News BriefsByhalia Chamber plans luncheon Thursday The
quarterly membership luncheon for the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce
will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, at The Flame – Byhalia United Methodist
Church. The meeting sponsor is NorthCentral
Electric Power Association. Kevin Doddridge, general manager of NEPA,
will speak on “Plans for the Future.” The doors
open at 11:15 a.m. with networking and buffet at 11:30 a.m. The program
will begin at noon and end at 1 p.m. A fish dinner with the trimmings
will be served by Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. The
chamber member fee for the luncheon is $5 with reservations. For all

information. Sounds of Summer set for Saturday, Aug. 25 Sounds of Summer Music and Art Festival will be held Saturday, August 25, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Byhalia. The
festival, to be held at the walking track, will include a 5K walk/run
and a kids’ parade. There will be good food, sky lanterns, live music,
arts and crafts, kids’ zone with games and exhibits, a corn hole

annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration and Nature Festival is just a
few weeks away. The big event will be held September 7-9 from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs. Activities
include hummingbird banding, live animal shows, expert speakers, kids’
nature activity tent, guided wagon tours and nature walks, nature trade
show, native plant sale and concessions. Admission is $15 for ages 13-64; $10 for ages 65 plus; $5 for ages 5-12; and free for ages 4 and under. Johnson new principal at Galena School Galena School has a new principal. Nashonda
Johnson was named to the position by superintendent Jerry Moore just
prior to the start of the school year. She fills a spot vacated by
Andrae Sims, who accepted a position as the curriculum coordinator in
Coahoma County. Johnson has been the Marshall County School District’s
English Language Learner (ELL) coordinator the past two years.
