Obituaries Norbert Jean-Paul Barruel
Norbert
Jean-Paul Barruel, 86, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 16, 2012, at his
home. He was born in French Algeria to French parents Marguerite and
Eugene Barruel and grew up in various cities where his father was an
administrator for the French government. He graduated from the Lycee
D’aumier in Constantine. He came to the United States as a French Cadet
during World War II and went back to France to train others to land on
aircraft carriers. He was commissioned in Corpus Christi and finished
his training in Cecil Field, Fla., on the “hell diver.” He returned to
America after the war and became a U.S. citizen. He won a full
scholarship to Tulane University for his undergraduate work and
received a post-graduate scholarship to Vanderbilt University to study
international law. He established the popular “Patio” at Gerber’s
Department Store in downtown Memphis. He later became the general
manager of the University Club of Memphis, where he remained for the
next 31 years. After retirement, he worked as general manager of the
Holly Springs Country Club and helped establish the University Club of
Oxford. He was a member of the Club Managers Association for many
years. He was a member of the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in
Holly Springs and served as treasurer of the St. Andrews Men’s Club. He
leaves his wife, Margaret Anne Seale Barruel; a son, Robert Eugene
Barruel of Mallorca, Spain; a daughter, Mimi Shultz (Kent) of Brandon;
a granddaughter and a stepgrandson. Visitation
will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 18 at the Parish House at Christ
Episcopal Church in Holly Springs. Memorial services will follow at 11
a.m. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce McMillan of
Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Christ
Episcopal Church, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center, the Marshall
County Humane Society or the charity of choice. Pallbearers

Ellen Tunstall Bell, 98, of Byhalia, died Jan. 10, 2012, at her home.
She was the widow of Tommie Howard Bell, a member of Liberty Hill MB
Church in Byhalia, a member of the usher board, a member of the
mother’s board and a member of Prayer Warriors Group. Services
will be held at 12 noon on Jan. 20 at Antioch MB Church in Victoria.
Burial will be in McCraven Cemetery in Victoria. Rev. Calvin Rayborn

Bell of Coldwater; her caregiver/granddaughter, Dorothy Jean Bell of
Byhalia; two sisters, Mary Ida Sanders, Surphine Kaiser, both of
Byhalia; 21 grandchildren 43 great-grandchildren and 12
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hattie Albright. Shalabrin Shaon Forest Shalabrin
Shaon Forest, 16, of Coldwater, died Jan. 6, 2012, in Senatobia. He was
a student at Coldwater High School, varsity football player, member of
the track team and of the National Jr. Beta Club. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Second Baptist Church in Coldwater.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home, Coldwater, was

Arlanza Forest of Senatobia; his mother, Shasta Faulkner of Coldwater;
four sisters, Kimi Webb, Lanesha Smith, Arlana Forest, all of

Faulkner, Jondarrius Faulkner, both of Coldwater, Jalen King of
Byhalia; and his grandparents, Calvin and Kathleen Jackson of Senatobia

Jerry Holbrook, 69, of Ashland, died Jan. 13, 2012, at his home. He was
a crane operator and farmer with Mid-South Terminal. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16 at Liberty Methodist Church, where he
was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Stacy McKee

Paul Hopkins, 47, of Red Banks, died Jan. 11, 2012, at his home. He was

Floyce “Doc” Isom Jr., 74, of Lamar, died Jan. 5, 2012. Services
were held at 12 noon on Jan. 12 at Isom Chapel CME Church in Holly

Jones, 63, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Lamar, died Jan. 6, 2012 at
South Shore Hospital in Chicago. He was a disabled factory worker at
ABEX in Chicago. Visitation will be Jan. 20, 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home and at the church on Jan. 21 from 12:30-1:25 p.m. Memorial

Harris McKinzy, 86, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died
Jan. 14, 2012 at her home. The widow of Dan McKinzy, she was a former
member of Strawberry MB Church in Holly Springs. Visitation
will be Jan. 20, from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family
receiving visitors from 6-7 and again at the church Jan. 21, 9:30-10:25
a.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan.

died Jan. 9, 2012. The widow of A.J. Spragling, she was a member of the

a former member. Pastor Willie Harper officiated. Burial was in
Cottrell Memorial Cemetery. She leaves a niece, Versie Turnage and a nephew, T.C. Smith, of Ashland. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mae Willie Smith; a brother, C.C. Smith and a sister, Eva Mae Payne. Pallbearers

Saxon Wilson, 87, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 13, 2012, at
Christopher’s Personal Care Home. She was the widow of Rufus B. Wilson
and retired from MS Forestry Commission. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 15 at First Baptist Church of Holly
Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery.
