Beale Road bridge closed for construction

The bridge on Beale Road in Marshall County is closed for replacement.

The bridge is being built by Talbot Brothers Construction Co. of Nesbit. The project should be completed in approximately six to eight months.

Traffic will be re-routed during this construction period.

UNCF banquet set for Feb. 9 at Rust College

Rust College announces the annual Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF banquet will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, at Shaw Cafeteria at 7 p.m.

Radio personality and Memphis icon Bev Johnson will be the keynote speaker for the event.

Johnson is a 1975 graduate of Rust and has been working in the radio and entertainment industry for more than 30 years. She is well-known for her show “The Bev Johnson Show,” which airs weekdays, 11 a.m.-12 noon and 3-6 p.m. on WDIA AM1070.

She has served as NBPC news director, was selected as WOW Woman of the Year, and received recognition from the Tennessee General Assembly and U.S. House of Representatives.

Tickets are available for $15 each.

Everyone is encouraged to support the UNCF campaign.

“With your gift, we are able to help more students with their tuition cost,” said Margie Green, chairman of the UNCF campaign.

Ole Miss students to help with 2012 profile

The South Reporter will publish its annual profile edition on March 8.

This year’s edition will again feature “A Slice of Life” in Marshall County, concentrating on the county’s people, places and projects.

In 2012, the newspaper staff will be assisted by students in the Meek School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. Bill Rose, a member of the faculty at Ole Miss, is organizing the students’ work, based on a list of stories provided by South Reporter editor Barry Burleson.

“The newspaper staff is excited about working with the students at Ole Miss on this edition,” Burleson said. “Not only will their efforts be of great assistance to us, but they will be getting valuable hands-on experience in their chosen field.”

The deadline for advertising in the profile edition will be Wednesday, Feb. 29.
