College announces the annual Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF banquet
will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, at Shaw Cafeteria at 7 p.m. Radio personality and Memphis icon Bev Johnson will be the keynote speaker for the event. Johnson
is a 1975 graduate of Rust and has been working in the radio and
entertainment industry for more than 30 years. She is well-known for
her show “The Bev Johnson Show,” which airs weekdays, 11 a.m.-12 noon
and 3-6 p.m. on WDIA AM1070. She has served as
NBPC news director, was selected as WOW Woman of the Year, and received
recognition from the Tennessee General Assembly and U.S. House of
Representatives. Tickets are available for $15 each. year’s edition will again feature “A Slice of Life” in Marshall
County, concentrating on the county’s people, places and projects. In
2012, the newspaper staff will be assisted by students in the Meek
School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi.
Bill Rose, a member of the faculty at Ole Miss, is organizing the
students’ work, based on a list of stories provided by South Reporter
editor Barry Burleson. “The newspaper staff is
excited about working with the students at Ole Miss on this edition,”
Burleson said. “Not only will their efforts be of great assistance to
us, but they will be getting valuable hands-on experience in their
