Supreme Court case on Obamacare could be landmark

Before the end of its term this year, the Supreme Court is expected to make a major ruling on whether the President’s health-care law violates the Constitution by requiring every American to buy health insurance.

The case is one of the biggest legal challenges in recent memory and promises to be a pivotal moment in the effort to repeal the entire Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which has drawn resounding criticism since it became law nearly two years ago.

Letter To The Editor

Remembering Martin

In recognition of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, I just wanted in a small way to recognize a man of integrity, determination and honor. If he was alive today I would send him this letter. Unfortunately, he is no longer here, but his spirit dwells in the hearts and souls of people all over this nation.

Dear Martin:
Just wanted to drop you a line or two to let you know how very much I appreciate what you did for me. I can remember watching on my parents’ small black and white television set and hearing on the radio about a black man standing up for the rights of black people in Alabama and Mississippi.
At a young age, I didn’t realize what was really going on with my people. I thought that the black people in the South, had the same rights as the black people in the North. I didn’t realize that having one’s human rights was a problem. I lived in Illinois; there was no marching or picketing or boycotting as far as I knew. We went to school, church and other places and were not treated differently. When I went to a business or establishment I always went in the front door. When I drank water from a public fountain, there wasn’t a sign posted that said, “Colored only.”
But, as I got older, I realize what you were saying; only what God had already said 2,000 years ago. In Genesis, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
No matter what my nationality, inside I have the same organs as anyone else. When I pass the hospitals there are all nationalities of people sick. When I pass the graveyards, there are all nationalities of people dead. It stands to reason there is a God.
I appreciate the role you played in my life. You were a prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement and for the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world. You led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and in 1963 you led the March on Washington where you delivered your “I Have a Dream” speech.
You encouraged and empowered people all over the world. I will remain focused on what and how best I can serve my country. I will respect the other person’s natural rights, vote in elections, contribute to society and I will do my part to help make Holly Springs a better place to live.
What I loved about you, Martin, is that you were looking out for everybody. I miss you.
