Obituaries
Jerry Lee Brown, 46, of Oxford, formerly of Ashland, died July 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford. Services were held at 12 noon on July 14 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Samuel Chapel MB Church Cemetery. Minister Bobby Smith officiated. He leaves his mother, Ellar Brown; a brother, Terry Brown (Brenda); and a sister, Jennifer Brown, all of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his father, L.B. Brown. Pallbearers were Terry Brown Jr., Willie Dean, Darius Tipler, Jerrico Brown, Jernarvis Jones and Darius Dukes. Shirley Jean Carr Shirley Jean Carr, 56, of Byhalia, died July 10, 2012. She was a member of the House of Prayer for All People and an associate at Walmart. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 13 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch. Bro. Larry West officiated. She leaves her husband, Timothy Carr; two daughters, Rebecca Young of Olive Branch, Renee Brinkman of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Dee Russell of Tavares, Fla., Diane Goodman of Hernando; and four grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She leaves three sons, Donald A. Cleveland II, John J. Cleveland, Robert A. Cleveland, all of Byhalia; a daughter, Shawn C. Cleveland of Byhalia; a sister, Diane Caron of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Vastie Fitts Vastie Fitts, 83, of Coldwater, died July 6, 2012, in Memphis, Tenn. She was a seamstress. Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 14 at Chulahoma Baptist Church. Burial was in Chulahoma Cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves a daughter, Gwendolyn Wicks of Coldwater; a son, James Wicks of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Almetter Jeffries, Jewel Fox, both of Chicago, Ill., Darnie Phillips of Chulahoma, Ethel Mae Mays of Coldwater, Roberta Howell of Holly Springs; a brother, Haywood Fitts Jr. of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Yvonne Howard Yvonne “Bonnie” Howard, 64, died June 28, 2012. Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 3 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. She leaves her husband of 49 years, J.T. Howard; three sons, John (Jonette) Francis Howard, Samuel (Phoebe) Wayne Howard, Jerry (Rosemary) Lynn Howard; two daughters, Pamela (Jimmy) Michelle Howard New, Kimberli (Darrell) Gail Howard Austin; two sisters, Nancy Phillips Cash of Byhalia, Connie Hampton of Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kevin Curtis Johnson Kevin Curtis Johnson, 44, of Collierville, Tenn., died July 8, 2012, in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Harris Chapel Methodist Church and a dental finisher with Rivercity Dental. Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. Rev. William Kemp officiated. He leaves his father, Ronnie Johnson of Bebe, Ark.; and his grandmother, Corrine Curtis of Lamar. Brenda J. McCallum, 63, of Potts Camp, died July 16, 2012, at her home. She was a pharmacy tech with Tyson Drug for 27 years and a diabetic counselor. A family memorial will be held July 22 at Brenda and Kathy’s home in Potts Camp from 2-4 p.m. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. She leaves her mother, Gracie Rhea McCallum of Potts Camp; her brother, Terry McCallum of Potts Camp; two sisters, Kathy McCallum, Melinda Joyner, both of Potts Camp; and two nieces, Jessica Joyner, April Joyner, both of Potts Camp. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Frances L. Patterson, 82, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 9, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 14 at Doxey Auditorium on the campus of Rust College. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Frank Thompson officiated. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She leaves four daughters, Mary George, Irene George Woods, Carol George-Higgins, Linda George-Powell, all of Memphis; three sons, Henry Jones, Oscar George, Richard George, all of Memphis; a sister, Maggie Brown of Memphis; 37 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Robert Pegues Jr., DeQuel Gardner, Twan Maberry, Armondro McDonald, Reginald Pegues and Christopher George Jr. Katherine Marie Hutchens Stroud Katherine Marie Hutchens Stroud, 63, of Sardis, formerly of Potts Camp, died July 13, 2012 at her home. She was the widow of Gilbert Stroud and Jerry Myers. She was a Christian. Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Tony Roberts officiated. She leaves two sons, James Cash of Dumas, Terry Myers of Sardis; a daughter, Kim Stroud of Sardis; her mother, Louise Hutchens of Potts Camp; three brothers, Buford Hutchens of Conway, Ark., Faron Hutchens of Potts Camp, Kenneth Hutchens of Hickory Flat; four sisters, Lavon Owens of Saucier, Virginia McCallen of Hickory Flat, Denise Hamby of Lakeland, Tenn., Lynda Williams of Potts Camp; and 11 grandchildren. Isabell Wall Whittemore Isabell Wall Whittemore, 74, of Hickory Flat, died July 14, 2012. She was the widow of Robert Perkins and James Whittemore. She was a Methodist and a telephone clerk. She leaves a son, Robert Whittemore of Rhode Island; three daughters, Lisa Colby, Cerise Wall, both of Hickory Flat, Roberta Stevan of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. |
