Two schools earn all-sports honors

Two Marshall County high school athletic programs are ranked in the Top 20 in their respective classifications.
The Clarion-Ledger, a daily newspaper based in Jackson, recently announced its All-Sports Awards for 2011-12. Potts Camp is 11th in Class 2A and H.W. Byers 13th in Class 1A.
Shootouts wrap up at Byers

The summer basketball team shootouts, being held at H.W. Byers, ended on Wednesday, June 27. The sessions provided an after-season venue for teams in the area to hone skills and test playing strategies against foes of varying abilities.
On Tuesday, June 26, the Lady Lions tipped off against the 6A Lady Eagles of Horn Lake. The Lady Eagles quickly settled into a points-gathering rhythm and pumped in enough buckets to have a seven-point lead (22-15) at the end of the first 16-minute period.
Golf tourney July 13 at Kirkwood
The annual Rust College Alumni and Friends Celebrity Golf Classic is drawing near but there’s still time for teams to sign up.

Basketball success in Olympics
While we are still basking in the glow of a pro basketball season which started in doubt and ended in pretty good fashion, the truth of the matter is that there is still quite a bit of basketball left which is going to grab our interest for a few more weeks. This is a national election year and an Olympics year. This time the games will be in London, England, and it will be interesting to see if the Brits can outdo the Chinese Peoples Republic. The ’08 Olympics of Bejing were indeed spectacular.
