Close to Nowhere By Linda Jones Wandering women “Guess
I was born with a travelin’ bone... you got that right, you got that
right... Here comes that ol’ travelin’ Jones once again...you sure got
that right.” With apologies to Lynard Skynard, they sure got that right! I’ve been trying to think of someplace to “go” for a couple weeks now. Meredith has her traveling plans set for the summer -- she’s going to California with her friend Robin and Robin’s family. Dana
and Remy are going to Georgia for a rock collecting something in
October and Dana is also going to Washington, D.C., on her birthday, to
meet up with a friend from Boston, Diana. Me?
Where was I going? Nowhere, thank you very much. I tried to figure out
a way to go to the fall quilt show, but... It used to be in Nashville,
Tenn., then it was in Knoxville, Tenn., and Remy and I went to both of
those (Knoxville is a long drive though). The
American Quilting Society has moved its fall show to Des Moines, Iowa.
I looked the show up, trying to be able to go, but it’s almost 700
miles. I just cannot drive that far, as quickly as I’d need to to see
all the quilts. So, Des Moines has been ruled out. While
we were all talking about Mere going to California, I kept thinking --
Rem and I need to go somewhere while Mere is in California. Wrong.
Their mom ruled that out quickly. With both girls gone, she’d have to
feed the horses, etc. at 3:30 a.m. before she left for work. So, I decided that Rem and I would go “somewhere” the week before Mere went to California. Wrong again. Their mom ruled that out for some reason that I can’t remember. So, I decided that Rem and I would go “somewhere” the week before that! Turns out that’s the week Dana is going to be in D.C. So,
I decided that Rem and I were going “somewhere” that week anyway! Mere
and Trey can feed the horses, etc. and neighber and good friend
Jennifer can supervise. Pop and Kris can fend for themselves for a
couple of days! So, I asked Rem where she wanted
to go and the prompt answer was Nashville, Tenn. She loves the
Parthenon and the museums. And there’s a spiffy quilt shop on the way! So,
we’re headed to Nashville in a couple of weeks -- we’ll drop off baby
quilts to my nephew (the baby is a couple months old now) and visit all
our familiar places. Found a new place too! We’re also going to the Bell Witch Cave!
