Wyatt’s World By Wyatt Emmerich Question is who pays – ratepayers or the company? The
$2.8 billion lignite gassification plant in Kemper County is in
trouble. It’s $366 million over budget but only 22 percent completed. Public
pressure is increasing. Last week the Mississippi Public Service
Commission (PSC) denied a request by Mississippi Power Company to raise
rates $20 a month on small residential customers and even more on other
ratepayers. The raise would have affected 186,000 homes and businesses

Letter To The Editor Volunteer firemen Dear Editor, June
24, after returning from church, my wife and I noticed smoke about a
half-mile from our home. Within half an hour, the fire was near our
home. Someone had set their pasture on fire, with high winds. Several
minutes later I saw fire engines with volunteer firemen from several
stations. I spoke with one of the chief firemen and while speaking with
him, I overheard him talking with another chief from another station.
They were stating the importance of the safety of their men. These
volunteer firemen worked very professionally and brought this wild fire
under control, and no homes were damaged. These men are not paid, but
worked as if they were. With that said, it is very important that we
pay our fire dues. These dues are their primary funding, so please,
let’s do our part. Alan Stanford Lamar |
